Back at it again, giving us a reason to smile and believe that there is good in the world, adidas by Stella McCartney launched a new collection, “Agent of Kindness.”
The exercise industry can be a toxic and shaming environment, and isn’t known for promoting kindness towards oneself at any step of the way. These common practices that surround exercising often create hard relationships with exercising and being active.
“Agent of Kindness” aims to promote being kind to yourself and your body through movement, giving it a positive association. It also celebrates young athletes that spread positivity throughout their communities and beyond.
The new collection is led by former UCLA gymnast Nia Dennis who utilizes her love of gymnastics to push for greater representation and more empathy in sport.
“Gymnastics is as much of a mental challenge as it is physical,” said Nia Dennis. “Over the years, I’ve learned that I need to be kind to myself and to fellow gymnasts because when we support and uplift each other, we can succeed together. In such a turbulent world, kindness in sport is something we need now more than ever and I’m so proud to be the face of a collection that prioritizes self-care, kindness to ourselves and our communities.”
“To me, being an activist means representing my beliefs in any way that I can and paving the way for the generation after me. I want these young girls to find their happiness and focus on mental health and to know that it’s ok to not always be ok. I love how this collection is created with intention and has such a positive message that is aligned with my beliefs; kindness in sport is free, and it can make a huge difference in someone’s life.”
The collection features luxurious knit pieces in bold colors, prints and textures. Created for comfort with “second skin” silhouettes, the pieces are the first collaboration between adidas by Stella McCartney and renowned knitwear experts, Wolford. By collaborating with Wolford, this collection brings luxury level comfort to the forefront of every day activewear. It includes Wolford’s signature soft yarn, made partly from recycled materials.
Hero pieces of the collection consist of the aSMC Truestrength Woolford Knit Onesie, an all-in-one piece that makes a statement with its bold animal print overlaid over the electric blue background, it has a seamless structure that gives it a supportive fit and striking look. It is 100% weft knitted making it warm and comfortable to wear. It’s accompanied by the Truestrength Woolford Knit Crop Top which has a skin like feel to it combined with the abstract animal print, creating a blend of style, comfort and functionality.
Another key piece of this collection is the Agent of Kindness Connectivity Parka, made from 100% recycled polyester. It has an oversized silhouette giving the piece a sophisticated feel. The lightweight fabric makes it a versatile piece that’s easy to wear from work to working out. It also features inside front zippers that can link up with other parkas, creating a unique element to the piece.
“When creating this collection, we wanted to provide active activists with the opportunity to move freely in bold looks that do not compromise on comfort,” said Stella McCartney. “Each piece has been designed with movement and self-care in mind so athletes can be kind to themselves, whilst also incorporating recycled materials.”
“We hope this collection helps to inspire our community to move in ways that connect and protect their own needs and those of the people around them.”
