Finnish lifestyle design brand, Marimekko, and adidas are back with their fourth collaboration since last spring. This new limited-edition release explores new patterns and once more combines Marimekko’s know-how in printmaking and adidas’ sustainable activewear innovations.

“We are incredibly excited to unveil our fourth collection with adidas,” explained Rebekka Bay, Creative Director at Marimekko. “Since Marimekko’s beginnings 71 years ago, our philosophy has been to empower people to be happy as they are through our colorful art of printmaking. Marimekko’s bold prints fit adidas’ innovative and boundary-pushing sports apparel perfectly. This collection is an ode to women and the way they move through the world, with the prints feeling as fresh now as when they were first crafted five decades ago.”

Just like previous collections the collection features prints by Maija Isola, a Marimekko designer, whose patterns have been staples in Marimekko collections since the end of the ‘40s. This time Isola is accompanied by Annika Rimala, who created modern prints for the finnish company from the ‘60s to the early ‘80s.

The prints developed by Isola that were picked for this capsule were based on photographs of the silhouettes of the female body. These were originally part of the Ihminen collection, which means “Human” in finnish.

Once again, the collection brings together adidas’ performance technologies with bold and bright prints. Each print used was assigned to a different area of sports, using Gabriel, Jenka and Tundra (by Isola) for running, and (the latter two) for training pieces. In this new launch you’ll find items ready to explore nature, with multiple younger looks and accessories, including footwear, such as the Ultraboost 22 model. In a push for more inclusivity in the sports community, the drop has sizes going up to a size 3X in select pieces, and features a sport Hijab, both things we love to see.

“On our continued journey to making sport a space for all, we’re excited to be unveiling a collection that is a true celebration of the female form,” said Aimee Arana, adidas Global Senior Vice President Sportswear & Training. “We understand that movement takes many guises, so we wanted to ensure pieces in this drop catered to different sports our community enjoy – from running to dance – whilst tailoring pieces to their specific needs. We hope this latest collection offers something to everyone who enjoys the vitality that sport and movement brings, whilst adding a touch of the collaboration’s statement style.”

Carrying on from the previous joint collections, this new one continues on the shared values among both companies, that want to bring the consumer consciously crafted materials. This is reflected in the key pieces of the collection, which are partly made with recycled materials or with Parley Ocean Plastic.

Besides the previously mentioned items, you can also find a city jacket, a cropped hoodie and a kid’s dress and tights set within the latest release. You can already shop some of these pieces on the adidas.com, with more yet to be released throughout the year, the next ones as early as July 12.
