Maharishi Keeps Camo Fresh in SS22 Capsule

Maharishi is fleshing out its closet of technical and military inspired garms with its latest Tech Special Forces capsule; a bolt on to its Spring/Summer 2022 collection released earlier this year. The capsule is focused on performance gear with technical elements. Expect water-repellent finishes, clever pockets, 3M reflectivity, integrated jacquard webbing belts and materials that can hold up in the great outdoors.

With this focus on the outdoors, comes a more eco-minded production. A hero fabric used across the pieces is a 100% recycled ultralight ripstop polyester with a water-repellent coating. This can be found on caps, shorts, pants and shirts.

Also featuring heavily is Maharishi’s “DPM: Tigerskins” fabric, designed for the SS22 collection. “DPM: Tigerskins” is a reproduction of a rare tigerstripe camouflage variant used by the U.S. Special Forces in Vietnam in the 1960s. Special Forces personnel used local tailor stores and locally printed camouflage patterns that were never officially made available by the U.S. military. Maharishi has enlisted the Italian mill Majocchi to weave and print the reproduction.

Taking a closer look at some of the pieces, you’ll find some interesting details such as the removable cargo pocket on the technical camo shorts. Once removed, this can be used as a shoulder carry bag. A jacquard webbing belt with Maharishi branding helps keep the whole thing together.

A funnel neck jacket is made with a two-sided polyester for reversible functionality. One side for full camo, the other for a more subdued monotone style. The jacket also features an asymmetric half zip opening, large kangaroo front pocket and a dropped rear hem.

Maharishi designs often blend Eastern and Western silhouettes. The technical kimono style shirt embodies this with its Italian-made fabric and traditional Japanese shape. A center front tie, ribbed collar and hidden side seam pockets complete the look.

The capsule does well to find fresh interpretations and uses for camo, a pattern that gets plastered across many streetwear collections. The addition of recycled materials makes it all the more appealing.
