What’s in the back of your wardrobe? It’s been a while since we last had a look too, but it might just be worth it. MR PORTER, the online luxury menswear retailer, has launched a reselling platform, so you can earn something for that forgotten jacket or pair of sneakers, while also giving it a new lease of life. It’s part of MR PORTER’s long-term ambition to help customers extend the life of their clothes, “either through care and repair or by finding them a new home.”
It’s a simple setup. Have a look for any pre-loved designer items you may have, give them a clean and start listing them on MR PORTER RESELL. Items will be picked up from your home, authenticated and photographed by MR PORTER’s reselling partner, Reflaunt, all for free.
Once sold, the seller can also get reward options including store credit with a ten percent discount at MR PORTER or a direct bank transfer.
The resell platform has already had success with MR PORTER’s sister retailer, NET-A-PORTER for womenswear. Surprisingly, this is the first time a leading menswear retailer has introduced a dedicated resell service. Initial usage at NET-A-PORTER shows that the resell model is particularly popular amongst Gen Z and younger millennials.
“We have long known that the wardrobes of NET-A-PORTER, MR PORTER and THE OUTNET customers hold some of the most covetable and beautifully crafted pieces in the world. Our resale services have been created to give these designer pieces a second life,” says Alison Loehnis, President, Luxury & Fashion, NET-A-PORTER, MR PORTER & THE OUTNET.
It does make us wonder — how many forgotten luxury designer items are out there in the world? Many pieces will still have life left in them. Now, when they’re found, they don’t need to end up as landfill but can instead start a new journey with someone else.
We can imagine more and more retailers and brands getting onboard with similar services. Stephanie Crespin, CEO and Co-Founder of Reflaunt, agrees: “The early success at NET-A-PORTER has proven the strong appetite for resale services and by extending it to menswear, YOOX NET-A-PORTER is quickly reaching the forefront of resale growth.”
Time to have a look at what’s in the back of your wardrobe.
