PANGAIA Reveals Shirts Made With Infinna, A Biodegradable Fiber Created Entirely From Textile Waste

PANGAIA has teamed up with Infinited Fiber Company, the circular fashion and textile technology group, to come out with shirts made from Infinna™ textile. This textile is a new fiber made fully from textile waste. The launch of these shirts marks the first time that a clothing piece is totally made from this material.

Infinna™ is developed from cotton-rich textile waste that is broken down to a molecular level. Once at this stage, the cellulose – the building block that makes up and keeps plant cell walls stable – within the cotton can be captured and remade into new fibers. Since the material is ultimately made from cellulose, the final product ends up being biodegradable and maintains biomass in the production chain, which is soft and has the look and feel of cotton. The aim of the companies is that clothing already made from Infinna™ will continue to be recycled indefinitely along with other textile waste.

“PANGAIA is constantly searching for technologies that can help us utilize waste streams and Infinna™ reimagines how we can recycle and manage textile waste,” explains Craig Smith, PANGAIA Research and Development Director. “This first capsule demonstrates that we can create beautiful products made completely from recycled fibers. We are entering a new era of breakthrough innovations in circularity and this launch opens a doorway to the future of textile recycling.”

Launched within a capsule collection, the new Infinna™ shirts will be available through PANGAIA Lab, the brand’s in-house research platform where it fuses lifestyle goods with advanced technologies. This capsule aims to keep textile waste from ending up in landfills and support textile circularity so it becomes a daily reality, showcasing that 100% recycled fiber fabrics don’t mean giving up look or feel.

“We dream of a future where ‘waste’ is not wasted but seen as the valuable resource it can be,” says Kirsi Terho, Infinited Fiber Key Account Director. “Pangaia are really leading the way in exploring circular materials to replace virgin resources. We couldn’t be happier that their customers will be the first to experience wearing a shirt made 100% out of textile waste that has been cleaned up and broken down at the molecular level to be given a new life as brand new textile fibers. We want to change the image of regenerated textiles being somehow inferior and feel confident that this collection will demonstrate just that.”

This collaboration is only the start of a longstanding relationship between the two companies, as they have also announced a long-term development partnership in tandem with this primary drop.

The Infinna™ textile will also be on PANGAIA Science, the brand’s B2B website. This ushers both breakthrough textile innovations and patents into the rest of the world, through the day-to-day use of products and partnerships.

The new T-shirts will be running for a limited time. They will be available to purchase from April 5 onwards, only on pangaia.com. The pieces range from $75 USD for a T-shirt to $85 USD for a long-sleeve T-shirt.
