From comfy sweats to multi-layered jackets and everything in between, Snow Peak might have some of the best transitional gear around. What began 60 years ago as a mountaineering brand, the Japanese label has evolved into lifestyle and camping outfit as the company passed from its founder Yukio Yamai to his son Tohru Yamai. So, in addition to creating some of the finest outdoor equipment, Snow Peak is also a family brand. And that comes through in droves in its Fall/Winter 2023 collection: matching outfits for kids and adults, plus camping kit for all adventures.
Quilted outerwear, multi-pocketed vests, hoodies and traditional Japanese shirting are all finished in a variety of earthy and muted tones. It’s all super cozy looking stuff that would take your outdoor pursuits to the next level. But what’s it made from? If previous collections are anything to go by, expect recycled cotton across some of the pieces. But also watch out for regular polyester and even some down-filled items.
Snow Peak goods are built for a lifetime of use (perhaps explaining some of the hefty price tags that they come with). As such, they are “designed to be passed on to the next generation. This approach keeps products out of landfills and in the hands of users.” Additionally, its website states that its facilities operate on 100% renewable energy. This, moreso that its material choices, are what gives the brand its eco-credentials. However, it’s not quite enough.
As it has been since its inception, Snow Peak is a brand deeply inspired by the outdoors. It understands the power nature has to heal and connect. We hope to see more of that attitude entering the design and manufacturing of its products.
