Sean Wotherspoon and adidas are back together with a new capsule collection celebrating the outdoors. The man behind vintage clothing store Round Two takes a bright, Earth-friendly spin on the trail-ready Response Hoverturf shoe creating the all-new SUPERTURF ADVENTURE SW.
Pops of color and playful details adorn the considered, fully vegan design. Recycled materials are found throughout the silhouette with inspiration drawn from the natural world. The sockliner and insole are made with 100% recycled polyester, and the upper itself is crafted from 20% recycled polyester. Disney’s Jiminy Cricket from Pinnochio is even found embroidered on the tongue as a direct nod to Wotherspoon’s childhood memories of The Disneyland Resort’s recycling bins that featured the character and a “Recycle Please” reminder.
Also featured as part of the shoe is a detachable bag in Wotherspoon’s signature use of corduroy, a material found in panels of the shoe’s upper, which he also used on his famous Nike Air Max 1/97 sneaker. The bag provides a little extra storage and can be fixed onto the shoe’s speed-lacing system or removed to be worn around the neck thanks to a hidden strap inside. T-shirts and hoodies revealing Wotherspoon’s collaborative logo with adidas Originals rounds out the SUPERTURF ADVENTURE SW project.
The SUPERTURF ADVENTURE SW is the designer’s first very-own silhouette with the Three Stripes – a result from a growing partnership that kicked off early 2020. Past projects with the brand includes creating eco-conscious versions of the iconic Superstar and ZX 8000 models under the SUPER EARTH collaborative initiative.
“An initiative that strives to reduce material waste during the footwear manufacturing process, SUPEREARTH aims to decrease waste through pattern efficiency, as well as the use of products like recycled rubber,” adidas explains in a press release for the launch of Wotherspoon’s Superstar. “People know that I’m vegan, and it’s a foundation of who I am. It’s a cornerstone of all my projects, and part of sustainable living,” the designer added.
News of the SUPERTURF ADVENTURE SW release also comes in conjunction with the fourth and final episode of the SUPEREARTH animated-series, which features Wotherspoon and his friends exploring the outdoors as a reminder to celebrate the beauty of the natural world. The series features a soundtrack by artist Theophilus London and The Bebey Band.
