When Sean Wotherspoon comes along to add a touch of his unique flair to a pair of kicks, you can be sure that they’ll land with a colorful pop. In recent years, he’s added his primary-color spin to a host of adidas silhouettes such as the Superstar, EQT Support 93, and Superturf Adventure.

Now, the famous sneakerhead and designer has been let loose on the adidas style-of-the-moment, the Gazelle. First introduced in 1968 and reinvented in 1991, the Gazelle has found itself in the spotlight thanks to some big-name collabs with the likes of Gucci, NOAH and Y-3.

The adidas Gazelle is, in the modern age of sneaker design, pretty simple. It’s a low profile silhouette that comes with the iconic Three Stripes motif and T-shaped toe cap. It’s the perfect blank canvas for Wotherspoon to paint on.

While previous Wotherspoon designs have taken characters and graphics from the nostalgic worlds of Disney and Hot Wheels, this one “celebrates Mother earth in a unique update” by “pulling inspiration from ’70s graphic art, UK terrace culture and street style.”

Organic and flowing shapes grace the whole of the upper and tongue, filled with a variety of playful pinks, greens, blues and yellows that pop against the plain ecru background. The eyelets, laces and Three Stripes are in a dark navy which contrasts nicely, preventing the sneakers from becoming too busy. For some extra detail, the insole and heel tab are printed with a flower peace symbol, decorated with the initials “SW”.

Pick up a pair of Gazelles and you’ll usually find they have a leather lining and suede upper. These, on the other hand, use an all-vegan textile corduroy with a synthetic lining. A semi-transparent gum sole lets the colorful print come through around the base.

The adidas Sean Wotherspoon Gazelle has—surprise, surprise—already sold out. So if you want to get your hands on a pair, you best get searching on those resell platforms.
