adidas Skateboarding and New York City-based publishing company Paradigm have come together for a six-piece sustainable capsule featuring the Three Stripe’s Earth-friendly material innovations Primegreen, high-performance recycled materials, and Primeblue, which is made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic.
Co-designed by Paradigm Publishing founder Theophilos Constantinou, the minimalistic collection draws inspiration from American journalist David Wallace-Wells’ 2019 The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming, an essay turned book exploring the consequences of global warming. Constantinou created the pieces for “fellow wanderers with an eye for timeless appeal.”
A sleek, black colorway with pops of purple remixes the iconic adidas Gazelle ADV by Paradigm. The sneaker is created with a rubber compound on the foxing wrap and outsole from 10% recycled rubber. Its synthetic upper uses 50% textile with 75% of that textile utilizing Primeblue yarn and no virgin polyester. The design is rounded out with Paradigm branding on the heel and insole as well as the collection’s mission statement on the tongue.
The iconic vulcanized shoe is complemented by an apparel collection that includes the Paradigm Track Jacket and Track Pant constructed with Primeblue ripstop polyester and inspired by the classic adidas Beckenbauer tracksuit. A lightweight, packable Paradigm Tech Shell provides weather protection with a specially designed hood and a 10k water resistance rating. Also included is a soccer-inspired Paradigm Jersey and Tote Bag.
The release of the Earth-friendly adidas Skateboarding by Paradigm capsule collection was accompanied by the premiere of the mini documentary Spread Light, Leave No Trace featuring Constantinou and adidas global team rider Mark Suciu as well as a book titled Life Before that features the two and explores the ideas of sustainability.
“I’m excited to partner with adidas Skateboarding to bring this important project on sustainability to life,” said Constantinou in a press release. “My hope through this collaboration is to inspire and encourage others to make tangible lifestyle changes to help solve the impact of climate change.”
With past innovative drops such as pro rider Lucas Puig’s Primeblue version of his signature shoe, the adidas Skateboarding by Paradigm capsule is another step towards the right direction that adidas is taking to unite the skate community through eco-conscious initiatives. “The future of humankind and the welfare of our planet is imperative to me, as we all play a vital role in protecting it for future generations. My hope is that through this partnership we can further unify the skate community in making a positive and lasting difference,” said Suciu.
The adidas Skateboarding by Paradigm footwear and apparel is currently available online via the adidas Flagship app, Confirmed app, and adidas.com/skateboarding.
