Following on from the success of their dual outings thus far, Billie Eilish and Nike are joining forces for the third time to unveil a new eco-friendly take on the iconic Air Force 1 Low silhouette. The release follows their previous collaborative Air Force 1 High, Air Jordan 1 KO, and Air Jordan 15, for which the duo made sure to underscore their joint commitment towards sustainable action by prioritizing conscious materials such as vegan leather.
For this new chapter, the artist and the Swoosh label are taking their positive impact one step further by tackling post-consumer waste. The Billie Eilish Nike AF-1 Low sees a deconstructed, geometric look that enhances the uniqueness and handcrafted feel of the shape. The distinctive component of the release is the shoe’s upcycled variation, with an upper constructed from scraps of the duo’s previous collaborations. Other sustainable materials like Nike Grind and foam scrap are added in the outsole and sock liner to offer a heartfelt respect for the classics and a new take on material innovation.
Arriving in earthy colorways dubbed “Mushroom” and “Sequoia,” the launch coincides with the 40th-anniversary celebrations of the Air Force 1, a sneaker that redefined basketball footwear and became a street icon. This release commemorates the occasion by offering a new take on the beloved silhouette, ultimately asking to take action toward creating a better world. As per the singer-songwriter, “I want my collaboration with Nike to tell a story that not only highlights the importance of recycling, but also reminds us that we need to take better care of our planet.”
Eilish, well known for her animal rights activism, has been vegan for over eight years and grew up on a vegetarian diet. In 2021, the artist used her influence to enact a no-fur change in Oscar de la Renta’s design policy. In her collaborations with Nike, the seven-time Grammy winner has made sure to include her love of all things ethical across thinking and making.
The shoes arrive in a special edition box that showcases Eilish’s “Blohsh” logo and the quote, “It’s hard to stop it once it starts” – perhaps a call to action toward further plant-based initiatives for a better future.
Priced at $140 USD, the Billie Eilish Air Force 1 Low drops on December 13 at Billie Eilish’s website and December 14 at Nike and select retailers, arriving just in time to make your holiday wishlist.
