Monsieur Plant Invites Us to a Mushroom Party With Five Fully Vegetated Sneakers

Urban gardener and botanical maverick Monsieur Plant surprises us, yet again, with a unique series of sneaker sculptures. Following his most recent creations, “Sneakerium” and “Retro Flower Sneakers,” the artist is inspired this time by culture’s new favorite multi-hyphenate: mushrooms.

Christophe Guinet, the French artist behind the otherworldly plant-based compositions, stepped into the heart of the Breton countryside to rediscover the beauty and strength nature has to offer. Intrigued by the area’s diversity and abundance of fungi, Guinet harvested bark, moss, autumn leaves, and mushrooms to create this series of mystical objects; a treasure trove amongst which his Mushroom Party, five fully vegetated sneakers made of tree barks and growing fungi, take the mycelium spotlight. “Indeed, fungi fulfill essential ecological roles in natural ecosystems. Without them, trees and plants would quickly die, suffocated by their own waste,” shared Monsieur Plant to DesignBoom.

Guinet’s pop-inspired sculptural sneakers are fully made of natural materials – from the show bar to the laces – serving as a reminder that even the most “hyped” constructions come from pure, natural forms. It’s this dichotomy between man-made consumerism and nature’s fragility that his creative practice is deeply rooted in. The fully vegetated sneakers continue Guinet’s meticulous body of work and exploration of the cycle of life through everyday objects.
