Does the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Multi-Corduroy’ Stay Animal-Free or Fall Short?

Well, don’t these look cozy? Like a cartoon version of everything in your dad’s fall closet mashed together… thoughtfully. And we’re not sure that’s a bad thing. The Air Max 90 ‘Multi-Corduroy’ is a tightly woven combination of “Black, Bronzine, Red Stardust, and Cedar” corduroys. It’s the sort of sneaker you want to reach out and touch.

And so, it seems that summer has ended – or, in most of the Northern Hemisphere at least, is drawing to a steady close – and that means it’s time to get thinking about how we keep our feet toasty in the upcoming months. This latest unveiling from Nike looks warming, like a pair of old (but not too old) slippers, which should make them a fall winner for the Air Max fans out there.

Compared to last year’s corduroy release, this season’s cord-infused drop does a little better material-wise by holding off on the leathers and sticking to a mainly — we assume, at least — cotton upper. This is combined with some rubber detailing like the Air Max logo on the side and around the eyelets.

And – with regard to those choices – we’re particularly glad to see that it’s rubber: recently, Nike (although, to be fair, they’re far from alone on this) has been falling into a habit of pairing plant-based uppers with leather heel tabs and logos. However, do keep an eye on that Swoosh when more details are revealed — it looks worryingly like suede, but could also quite easily be canvas. The latter would be much preferable.

All this corduroy goodness sits upon classic Max Air cushioning, which is situated in a rubber outsole. The simple black and white colorway of the sole pairs very nicely with the multi-colored upper, as do the black laces and other detailing. This restraint makes the Air Max 90 ‘Multi-Coruroy’ look like a very wearable shoe for your Fall rotation.

Released alongside this in something of a corduroy double-header is the Air Max 97 ‘Corduroy and Cursive’. It follows a similar color scheme to the 90 and also features plenty of nice cord layers. Except, sadly, in between these are smooth leather and possibly suede layers. C’mon Nike.

Reported to be dropping September 23 for $130 USD, the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Multi Corduroy’ looks to be a women’s only release. Keep an eye on Nike.com, official retailers and the SNKRS app for more info soon.
