There are many reasons for why you might run. You might do it for fitness. To chase down personal bests. For the sense of achievement. Or, you might hit the trails to discover something different. Those long runs can become spiritual experiences that reward the athlete with a sense of tranquility often found only in nature.

Satisfy calls it peace and silence – a “kind of primordial hyperawareness.” In designing its first trail shoe, the Paris-based brand has been careful to ensure that it has eliminated “any physical distraction beyond the experience of running” to help achieve this transcendental “high.”

To construct a shoe worthy of this challenge, Satisfy turned to norda. The Canadian-based outfit uses innovative materials that combine performance and sustainability in fresh designs that are seriously pushing the boundaries of the category.

This particular collab uses a version of the norda 001 which we reported on earlier this year. The hero of this sneaker is its Dyneema® upper. Bio-based, ultralight, breathable and indestructible, Dyneema® has been touted by norda as “the world’s lightest and strongest material.” Manufactured using renewable energy sources, it’s also kinder on the planet than many other traditional alternatives. According to the Dyneema® website, the fiber is made using waste from the pulp and timber industries. Its hard-wearing nature should also mean that it stays with you for longer than other running kicks.

The 001 features plenty of Vibram technology to keep your feet safe and secure as you race along rocky trails. The midsole is engineered using Vibram SLE and the sole plate is constructed with Vibram Litebase technology. Both reduce weight whilst maintaining cushioning and responsiveness. And with Vibram Megagrip rubber on your feet, you’ll never feel unstable on wet or dry terrain again.

The Peace & Silence 001 comes in a Jadeite colorway with a contrasting gum sole. Silvery reflective details give the shoe form. “Peace & Silence” is printed on the lace aglets and a reflective peace symbol decorates the heel tab. The insoles have the brand’s iconic “possessed” wordmark. Each pair also comes in a recycled ripstop nylon shoe bag with plastic buckle.

We don’t know if all this will help us achieve “primordial hyperawareness” on our next run but we’re willing to give it a try.

The Satisfy x norda Peace & Silence 001 drops July 21 at 5 p.m. CET on satisfyrunning.com.
